On February 23, 2014 everything changed in an instant when Jackie Lithgow was assaulted during his freshman year of college at Bloomsburg University. He was critically injured, suffering a fractured skull and severe traumatic brain injury. Over the course of the last five years, Jackie has continued to overcome numerous obstacles, including a coma, blood clot, multiple infections, and countless surgeries. His rehab included relearning how to walk, talk, and eat. Six months of his recovery was spent at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia with an additional year spent as an outpatient at Penn State Hershey Outpatient Rehabilitation Hospital.
Today, Jackie celebrates the tremendous successes made throughout his journey as he continues his long road to recovery. He returned to Bloomsburg University, where he recently graduated with a BA in Mass Communications.
In 2018, Jackie and his family created The Jackie Lithgow Foundation (501C3). Thanks to support from the Hunter Brooks Watson Memorial Fund, The Jackie Lithgow Foundation was created to provide support to other survivors of traumatic brain injuries, through financial, educational, and emotional support, as well as research and program development, focused on, but not limited to, Central Pennsylvania.
The foundation was inspired by Jackie's wish to give back to other traumatic brain injury survivors who may not have the same level of support that he had.
